The Story Behind Triple Locked Adventures

The Roots of My Passion

My journey into offroading and overlanding began at a young age, growing up in a small farm town where adventure was a way of life. We didn’t have fancy vehicles back then, but we made the most of what we had—riding snowmobiles, four-wheelers, and bicycles on farm access roads and private land. These early experiences ignited a lifelong passion for playing outside, enjoying the adventure, and tinkering with anything that has wheels.

The First 4WD: A Seed is Planted

My first 4WD vehicle was a 2009 Nissan Xterra. It wasn’t heavily modified—just some OEM+ items and larger All-Terrain tires—but it was enough to get me hooked on the world of camping, mountain biking, and offroading. This vehicle planted a seed that has grown into a full-blown passion for overlanding. From a young age, I was always fascinated by the automotive world, inspired by icons like Jesse James, Stacey David, and Chip Foose. I even once disassembled a 1980s Mazda 323 in my dad's backyard just to learn how it all worked—a project that taught me more than any book ever could.

A Foundation in Automotive Passion

Before diving deep into overlanding, my journey as a gearhead took many turns. One of my first built cars was a 2012 VW Golf R. This car was a canvas for my passion for performance and style. With a series of bolt-on power mods, some OEM+ upgrades, air-ride suspension, and a set of wheels that perfectly complemented the build, it was a project that solidified my love for automotive customization. This experience taught me a lot about modifying vehicles and paved the way for future builds, including my overland rigs.

Building a Career in the Automotive World

My passion for vehicles wasn’t just a hobby—it eventually became a career. I started by helping out a Dirt Oval racing team, doing everything from general shop work to bending steel for bumper jigs. Later, I worked for an aftermarket performance supplier, specializing in brands like Recaro, Brembo, and Milltek. My career continued to evolve, eventually leading me to roles in service advising and managing an independent shop specializing in import cars. These experiences deepened my automotive knowledge and fueled my passion for overlanding.

The Birth of Triple Locked Adventures

Triple Locked Adventures was born in 2024, inspired by a shared love of the outdoors with my wife. We decided it was time to rekindle our love for camping, biking, hiking, and generally exploring back in 2019. It didn’t take long for us to remember how much we loved the outdoors, and our passion grew quickly. Overlanding combined all the things I loved—exploring, camping, off-roading, road trips, gadgets, gear, and tinkering with vehicles—into one incredible lifestyle.

Facing the Challenges

Starting Triple Locked Adventures wasn’t easy. The biggest challenge was overcoming my own self-doubt. I worried about what others would think and felt paralyzed by the need to make everything perfect. But eventually, I realized that perfection isn’t necessary—sharing my knowledge and experiences is what matters most.

The Vision for Triple Locked Adventures

In the short term, my goal is to grow Triple Locked Adventures by providing valuable content and engaging with others who share my passion. People often tell me I have a vast knowledge of all things automotive, and one day I realized—why not share that with the world? In the long term, I hope to see this platform grow into something successful. While making money isn’t my main focus, if this turns into a source of income and allows me to collaborate with amazing brands, it would feel like cracking the matrix.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for TLA

I see Triple Locked Adventures growing primarily on YouTube and Instagram, where I’ll share detailed videos about my vehicle build, product reviews, and tips and tricks for others in the overlanding community. Whether it’s sharing what I’ve learned, what I’d do differently, or what I nailed the first time, my goal is always to provide value. I’m excited to meet new people, explore this beautiful world, and see where this journey takes me. The sky’s the limit.

Final Thoughts
